Pampering, Hollywood Style
By: Katherine Angelo
With the addition of Spa Luce onto the Hollywood scene, there’s now a place of tranquility and relaxation smack dab in the center of all the teeming action of Tinseltown. Located in the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and with an entrance that opens right out into the Hollywood & Highland entertainment and shopping complex, Spa Luce truly is right in the heart of Hollywood. And it feels that way when you enter, passing by the hotel’s rooftop swimming pool (take a dip after your treatment, the full use of the pool is included if you book a spa package) into the stylish white-on-white space that is Spa Luce. A welcoming staff escorts you into the well-equipped locker room, where all your cares begin to fall away as you change into robe and slippers, and take a quick visit to the eucalyptus-infused steam room. Then it is on to the relaxation room, where teas, fruit, and lounging beds await.
Once your friendly therapist arrives to escort you into one of the tranquil treatment rooms, the fun really begins. Choose from a wide range of treatments, from facial therapy that utilizes products and treatments created by skin guru Sonya Dakar or by the Somme Institute, to massages with choices that range from deep tissue to hot stone. We tried the Hammam Ritual ($180), a five-step indulgence that combined an intense cleansing with Moroccan mint tea and silt, followed by a scrub with coffee, and a slathering in clay, culminated with a full-body heat wrap. After showering off the
mud, it was back to the table, where the ritual continued with a full-body Turkish massage and, finally, with everything feeling quite noodle-like, the treatment finished off with a slathering of nourishing body cream. Next time, we’ll try the Japan Ritual, a similar 5-step treatment that also sounds divine, or perhaps indulge in a detoxifying seaweed wrap or the anti-aging manicure series. That one reduces age spots and fine lines on the hands; Spa Luce (www.spaluce.com) also offers a full line of manicures, pedicures, waxing, bath soaks, and couples therapies, as well as spa packages that last for hours and combine a number of different treatments.
And the best part about Spa Luce? You’ll feel like a movie star by the time you head back out onto Hollywood Boulevard, even if you’ve never had a close-up in your life.
